The call for the fire came in around 8:24 a.m., at 1185 Route 9G in a small cottage in Hyde Park that is one of three on the property that also contains a two-story apartment building, said Jeffrey Scala, assistant chief of the Roosevelt Fire District.
When crews arrived on the scene they found a working fire and were able to douse the flames within 20 minutes, the chief said.
Firefighters found the deceased person during an inspection of the interior of the building, Scala said.
Officials could not confirm a name or sex of the dead person.
The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation into the fire and the death, Scala said.
No other injuries were reported.
Hyde Park and Fairview fire departments assisted at the scene.
